"The Jeweler's Source has a wonderful selection of lapidary, silver smithing, and jeweler's tools. Blake Cardinal owns the store and takes the time to work with customers to find items to solve specific problems. If he doesn't have an item, he will order for you!"

"I have purchased 3 incredible, very unique super high-quality crystal pendants from this store (first I found their store on Etsy, then I placed my second order directly through their website). Customer service was outstanding, and I absolutely cherish the incredible, one-of-a-kind pendants. They came ready-to-wear, with high quality chains. The first one that caught my eye was a phantom Shangaan smoky amethyst (actually a cluster of DT points so in my head I added "elestial" to the description) which totally exceeded my expectations. Then I ordered a super saturated enhydro amethyst (3 mobile bubbles in description and I actually found 4!) and a cool malachite stalactite set with copper. The crystals, design and setting work are top notch. I admire them all day when I'm wearing them and get lots of compliments. Highly recommend you check out this shop either in person or online."

"Dare I say...this place is a hidden gem? Here's my quick takeaway:\n\n1. Could be a journey to get there depending on where you live \n2. Might miss it if you're not looking for it\n3. Enter from the west side door\n4. Shop cats!\n5. They were out of a few common items I was seeking but I did find an uncommon crystal for a friend that was so well-priced my jaw dropped\n6. Ask the owner for anything specific and add yourself to their notification list\n7. You can shop on their website\n\nI could have wandered around for hours looking at everything and feeling the energies. If you have a rock hound in your orbit, this place is definitely worth a stop!"

Lapidary/trim sawIf you buy used equipment, expect lots of work and a steep learning curve refurbishing it. Even small thigs like changing bearings or replacing a motor end up costing lots of time and money in parts and tools and labor, with added risk of inadequate performance since you are just learning. I also run the lapidary shop for our rock club, which has five saws- a brand new (12 months) Highland Park 14 auto feed, an old Lortone 14in., another older Highland park 18in. and a couple trim saws.
Cutting lubricant for slab sawsI am by no means an expert.... What weight/viscosity was the gearbox oil? From what I've seen is that saw oil seems to be on the thin side. I have seen many experts recommend food grade mineral oil. I just looked, and from what I could find that mineral oil is about a 70 viscosity. Seems kind of thick to me. Logged
Art In Stone - Cutting, sanding and polishing Jade tutorialThe problems arise with lower quality Jade. These usually show indications such as "chips" along already cut edges and in lines in the Jade running like the grain in a piece of wood. If you have a Jade piece with lines in it you need to cut with the length run of the grain. If you cut across the grain the Jade will crumble. You also ...
